Many years ago, Ertl did this really nice release of the Pontiac Grand Prix in several colors and detail versions. This is a standard Ertl diecast from back then in a deep red exterior color. In one shot one of my nieces is at the controls in downtown Chicago and in two others, the Pontiac has been photo-shopped in the computer to show it as a possible convertible.
Great pics Michael, thanks. I wish ERTL had done a better job on this GP model. Your c’vert would have been a K.O. in sales I’ll bet.
Steve
Ertl offered this 1/18 in both regular and Elite versions, I believe, and in several color combinations. Some Ertl's I think had the vinyl top, also. I have always been delighted with my Pontiac Grand Prix and I guess back then the diecast was available even in department stores/Toys-R-Us for perhaps $24.95 ....... a great deal and bargain !
I LOVE this Grand Prix but only as a HT. That roof line, especially vinyl covered, makes the car IMHO.
Your usual fantastic photos Mike. I could stare at them for hours and get lost in each scene.
@jack-dodds Agree with both points Jack. I have the model in light gold with a white vinyl roof.
Agreed, as much as I love convertibles - this '69 GP makes a much better-looking hardtop. 😎 😎 😎
I owned an earlier 1963 model GP and several friends owned the 1969, 1970 and 1972 Grand Prixs. The pics are very nice, and the proportions seemed off, from the distribution of body length from the front to the rear, the door size, and even the driver's side window opening. So, I compared the model to a 1:1 1969 Grand Prix. I realize these are models and as I am learning not all models will be in proportion to an original. This was more of an exercise for me to see if my 'sense' about the model's proportions was correct.
@gdh No question Ertl "goofed it" but I've seen worse - and on models that cost much more. I think Ertl's '69 GP is certainty "passable." But let's compare anyway, with A.I., just for fun....
Why not, right? 😉 😉
