Nearly 20 years ago Ertl did this model of the incredible '70 Plymouth Superbird. This one has a 440 Super Commando V-8 under the hood.

Great photos of a great model.  I will forever love the PLYMOUTH SUPERBIRD.  1970 was the year I graduated from high school and I'd have given anything to have one back then.

LOL, I graduated in '71 and, yep, a car anything like this would have been a dream. I would have been a god among men ..... or more importantly, a god among the gals !

Plymouth Superbird, Dodge Daytonas, cars created for one purpose to race but they had to build and sell a certain number in order to race them. There was one big design defect with the Superbird and Daytona and that was engine cooling, these are bottom feeder designs and in hot weather on the street at low speeds and in traffic they were known to overheat.

Still you can't take away the style and outside the box thinking that went on trying to come up with a better race car.

I remember the first time I saw someone driving this car on the street and I thought it was such a stupid buy. Outside of a NASCAR track, all this thing was was a cop magnet. Now I wish I would have bought it from him. LOL
