The '55 Pontiac was a particularly beautiful automobile in my view and it's styling and new V-8 power were a real milestone for that GM division. SunStar really captured that gorgeous look with this release from their Platinum Edition line. I have several of these great 1/18ths and this is one of the convertible versions in a terrific color scheme.
Terrific Mike. Tha last picture reminds me of the time we were at the Pontiac dealer during a snow storm when my dad was looking at a black/white 55 Star Chief convertible on the show room floor. The dealer had artificial palm trees, beach balls, floorcovering that looked like sand, etc.,etc. Dad ended up buying the car thanks to my brother and myself talking mom into it against her best wishes.
One of my favorite years of Pontiac!
The car that the Ricardos and the Mertzes drove from NY to California in. Beautiful!

The Sunstar Platinum Line models were / are true gifts from the Diecast Gods !Â

What a fabulous model! And the red color inside of the exhaust tip is just too much! Love it! Â

Beautiful photos of a wonderful model. I have three color combinations of this beauty. That's a great color combination.

Oh yeah, one of only a handful of "top down" convertibles I had to have (in yellow/black)...also one of Sunstar's better 1/18 attempts. No screw-ball roof lines, droopy fenders or dopey wheels here. This replica looks great from EVERY angle.

My grandparents got a 4 door sedan in two-tone blue but it was around as a reliable family car for a decade and then went to some relatives for additional service. I wonder whatever happened to that old automotive friend ?
You are quite right about some of those inventive and elaborate set-ups and scenes some dealers placed their new cars in, Bob ! I have seen pictures of some impressive displays and I can imagine this gorgeous new '55 in a tropical beach scene ..... absolutely irresistible !

Hey Mike...  Did your Grandparent's car look like this?  Here's why I ask.... Â
LSS: As a Junior in high school (back in '81) I produced a poster-size color painting of this very car using watercolors. At that time, I was thinking of a career as a commercial artist. My painting impressed teachers/students and went on to win numerous school awards for art.Â
I still have it but unfortunately cannot locate it (but when I do, I'll post a pic). Until your story, I hadn't thought about "my blue Pontiac" in decades! 😉 🙂 😉Â
How GREAT would a four-door 1/18 1955 Pontiac sedan be?  (HINT HINT SUNSTAR!!)
Chris, I would buy one. Would love to see your painting when you find it.

Yes Bob, I would buy a few 1/18 four-door 1955 Pontiacs... ..Sunstar is half way there, right? Â
The painting: There were (so I thought) only 2 places it could be. Neither proved successful; it's here, I'll find it. I guess what impressed folks back then is that I found a way to use watercolor paint so "smoothly." Most thought it was oil-based.
The Pontiac "subject matter" was irrelevant....LoL 😕 🙄Â

Yep, that pretty much looks just like it. Wow, it would be great to see the painting of that '55 Pontiac ! Yes, I would be delighted to get a four-door '55 Pontiac from SunStar or anyone willing to do it in 1/18 (or other scale).
Lol, back in '71 I did an automotive collage for an assignment in art class. I still have it and the illustrations came from old National Geographic magazines .... a real treasure trove of car ads over the years.
Here are also some pictures of '55 four door Pontiacs. The first one, a black and white image, shows it's aft end in our garage, circa 1960. That's Dad in the 1 of 1 fur-covered Lark.
The other pictures are just snaps of Pontiacs like ours. Sometimes I wonder, could any of these actually be our old family car ? I think I may have the VIN number somewhere, so maybe I can find out someday. I still have the VIN of Dad's 1953 Chevrolet.
Â
Mike, It appears that someone put the Star Chief stars on the two tone blue Chieftain.Â
Good eye Bob. "Give that man a star!"  ...A Star Chief star please! 😉 😉 😉Â
