As I was growing up in the 50s and 60s there were a few Mercedes sedans around and I just thought they looked stodgy and couldn't understand what the big deal was about owning one. By the mid/late 70s, I was living in one of the bedroom communities serving Manhattan and it seemed like there was an explosion of Mercedes sedans on the road, especially these long wheelbase SELs, and I must say I was impressed by their looks and stance. They were lean, aggressive yet opulent and formal... made to be owned by a man who has 'made it'. This 1976 300 SEL 6.5 liter V8 powered sedan was top of the line, and looked it.

A friend of mine had one of these and loved it but sold it after experiencing his first repair bill. Apparently the cost of parts was staggering.
Always a sucker for "black with red" cars (scale & 1:1) therefore this is a sight to behold. Oh yeah, a very fine Mercedes model too! 😉 😉Â
I have this model and like it far better than the 1/1 250 I owned. I have owned lots of cars over the years but the 250 made me swear that I would never own another MB.
@bob-jackman I rode in one of those smaller M-Bs back in the day ( I think it was a double date). I remember it being a rather harsh riding rattle trap and I was expecting to be in the lap of luxury.
An extremely impressive 1/18 model of this elegant Mercedes ! I guess this is one of the AutoArt's as I see from the chassis shot, but I think SunStar did a big Mercedes, too (and maybe someone else) ?
I'm with you @chris, the color combo is outstanding.

@mikedetorrice This is indeed the AutoArt. SunStar has done quite a few MB's, but I don't remember them (or anyone else, actually) doing this S-Class.
@chris Myself included on the blk/red color scheme.
