(PICS) A couple of old So-Cal Salt-Flats Racers
I've had these two detailed 1/18 models for over 15 years but I just pulled them out of their display case to finally photograph them.
The vehicles that they depict were built by Alex Xydias' So-Cal speed shop for salt-flats and dry-lake racing in the late '40s and early '50s. Xydias was a Ford (Flathead) guy and rather than advancing to any popular overhead valve motor in the coupe during the '50s, he opted instead for using aftermarket Ardun (ARkus DUNtov) OHV heads made for the Ford flatheads.
The coupe's roof became chopped lower and lower, over time until culminating in the look of just window slits at the side.
GMP's '34 Ford So-Cal coupe model was beautifully detailed but I found the racer's 'nose' proportion a bit bulbous and too vertical so I wound up doing a bit of 'rinoplasty' to the nose as soon as I received the model.
The flathead powered 'belly-tanker' (war surplus aircraft auxiliary fuel drop-tank) was offered by Precision Miniatures over 15 years ago and I've kept it just as produced.
I believe that both of these models have been reintroduced in the last couple of years.

Belly Tankers R so cool ( to me ) they look fast sitting still - question
What kind of display do you use ... these have no dust and look straight out the box
