Many years ago both Maisto and Highway 61 did excellent Dodge 330 sedans, with Maisto doing a 1963 and Highway 61 doing a 1964. I had understood that when each company realized that that the other one was also going to do a early Sixties Dodge 330, the two companies supposedly informally agreed that one would do a 1963 and the other a 1964 to avoid doing the same one and hurting sales, even though Maisto would generally be at a lower price/detail point and Highway 61 at a higher one. Both turned out to be terrific diecast models and I happily have some of each.
At the time, a U.S. based Maisto representative shared some in-progress images that were taken of the '63 Dodge 330 as it was being done by a master modeler in a resin-type plastic that could also be carved. After any changes were made and approval given, it would become a basis for steel master molds. Here are some of those interesting photographs :
This is totally crazy that you would pic, of all models, this particular one. I recently pirated the wheels from this very model to use on a some-what secrete 1/18 project that I hope to reveal in a few months.
I remember seeing these prototype pics before; I find them interesting as well as educational.
Come on now, there are no secrets allowed here.... We WANT in progress pics and we WANT them ASAP !
Our demands MUST be met ---- there will be no negotiating !!

Sorry, no can do.... I'm truly working on things I have little experience with, therefore I'm not certain what to expect. "FINGERS CROSSED!" The ONLY hint I can give you is.... "Think FoMoCo."

Thanks Mike. It is great to be able to see this stage in development of a new model.

Thank you, David. It is pretty neat to see a diecast model at an earlier stage of development and if those two companies really did informally agree not to step on each others toes and do the same year model, then that is even better ! They are both excellent diecast cars from each company and I think each was successful with their 330 Dodge replica.
