PICS: I inquired about the new ACME 1:18 scale 57 Olds. The photo they advertise for this model is of the actual REAL car. The photo Legacy sent me is of the actual MODEL. Sorry, but I find this deceptive advertising by ACME, as they are not showing their actual model.
The reason for my inquiry was to find out if indeed the photo was the model or not. Turns out, and I suspected this anyway, that the model is just another repaint of their original release WITH the awful looking windshield visor and the rear side windows up.
I don't know about anyone else here, but in my entire life, I don't ever recall seeing a 57 Olds with that windshield visor on it. So why ACME decided to produce a car with it in the first place is a mystery.
And seriously, the rear side windows up? The beauty of a hardtop back in the day was having those rear windows down to have the feel of a convertible.
I do have two other color releases of this 57 Olds, and I'd really hoped that with this latest repaint, ACME would have taken the effort to remove the visor and take out those rear side windows.
I will NOT be adding this gold mist repaint to my collection!

That's one of ones I have Lee. It doesn't have the visor which is good, but the rear side windows are still there. Just so stupid!

(Pics) Since there are certainly people who like the 1957 Olds Super 88 both with the visor and without (like me), Highway 61 and Acme have released several versions (including the gold coupe) in each style. And Yat Ming has done a number of convertible versions, so even if someone doesn't want the rear quarter window up OR the visor, they can get that, too ! There are probably collectors out there who want all the windows up (for those rainy days), but, oh well, they will have to wait or fabricate some themselves, LOL !
The point is there IS a choice and since I just like '57 Olds in ALL it's forms, it seems a bit much complain that only one's particular preferences should be done.

There was one made in this color without the visor, back in 2006 by Hwy 61. Item #50443 - otherwise identical I believe.

But it still had the rear side windows up. That's what I'm not a fan of. The whole lure of the hardtop in that era was that you could have all the windows down and feel the wind during the drive. Not to mention how nice hardtops looked with all the windows down.
Yes, this is a personal opinion on my part, but I know I'm not alone in having it.

It's any easy fix George. A screw driver, a Dremel, a few files...done. I've removed several.
I'm a BIG fan of hardtops too and have been lucky enough to own several. Sadly, there are NO true American hardtops left. The closest are Mustang & Camaro convertibles with "tops up" and all windows down.
And... I believe on Camaros, only TOP TRIM levels to have separate rear window switches; otherwise rears can be lowered only with the top.
