These two contemporary race cars could not be more different in concept and execution, yet they both represent the spirit of competition, each in it's own own way.

With it's highly tuned 1.5 liter air-cooled flat-opposed eight cylinder engine and light weight design, the Porsche is an example of the state-of-the-art engineering and efficiency that can be achieved by the best minds of a major motorcar manufacturer.

By contrast, Ivo's "Showboat" demonstrates what a small group of enthusiastic hot rodders can produce.

During 1962, the only year that Porsche campaigned the 804, Dan Gurney charted one Formula 1 victory with it at the French Grand Prix, a remarkable achievement for a new entry. Ivo's "Showboat", by comparison, had a long career making exhibition runs all over the country under the auspices of a number of different owner/drivers. Ivo made his last pass in the car at Orange County International Raceway in Irvine, California in 1982.

Thanx and you're welcome, John. It took some doin'. Recent photos look much sharper in my files....
...than they do when I post them not just here on the D4C but on other sites as well so I had to play with them a little bit. Go figure. Understanding the reasons for such things is way above my pay grade.
Those are some pictures, Gene
The overhead of the four engines is sensational!
The comparison between the two cars is fascinating; I think Ivo achieved real value for money with his investment. You don't get much for $250k nowadays, when it comes to innovative design.
Thanx, Paul. GMP did a pretty nice job on those mills.
Superb line up & pics.
"Nail Heads Gone Wild" I hope TV Tommy is still going strong.
HA! He may not be going fast, but he's still going strong at age 78, Richard.
Thanx, Chris.
Your photos demonstrate why race cars are usually my favorite models to collect. The unique ...
... engineering intricacies of the drivelines, suspensions, and chassis keeps me intrigued. The model subjects of your post are fine examples too. Love 'em!
Thanx, Marlowe. Your comment makes perfect sense.
Whoa, talk about brute power ! Fine images of these horsepower monsters.
Thanx, Mike.
