Question on Yat Ming Packards........

I'm looking to buy a couple of the Yat Ming Packards - the 1953 and/or the 1955 convertibles. I've got one from the Danbury Mint, so the real good detail isn't that important for these. I was wondering more about the body scale and proportions, etc. Thanks for any feedback! The price is right, but I just thought I'd double check on the "looks".

(Pics) Hi Richard ! Both these particular YM Packards measure out short in wheelbase, with the '53 Caribbean approximately 6.38" and the '55 about 6.59. It should be around 7.05". The real car was an impressive 127 inch span for all years of the great Caribbean.

However, I think the YM's display very well, especially together, and they photograph nicely, too ! At their very affordable price point, they each make for a terrific addition if you like Packards.

Here's versions of the '53 and a '55, with one of the 1955's having a convertible top from a Maisto '50 Ford added.

I have both a '53 and '55 and they do, in fact, display nicely. Well worth it.

Richard, Mike & Sal make good points but believe me...these models will LOOK small. If you....

...display them next to another "Yat-minger-cheapy" say, their (also small) 1952 Lincoln then you'll be just fine.

Conversely, put any one of these (either Packard, or the Lincoln) next to a Sun Star 1/18 Lincoln, or Mercury, or Ford and, well, you'll be sick.

My two cents.

I normally display my "smaller" models nearer my 1:24th scale diecasts, so they actually look "bigger". These two Packards are probably about 1:20th scale and I bet there are more than a few 1:18ths out there that are really closer to 1:20th. Thanks !

Mike....great photos, as usual ! Your talent for making a budget model look much more expensive is wonderful.

Richard, you are 100% correct. MANY 1/18 models fall "short."
