Regarding a recent item offered on the auctions page...
... I don't mean to be critical of anyone's offering on the auctions page, but am I missing something?!!
There's a listing for a Maisto 2014 Corvette coupe for $149.00.
Seriously, is there something unusual about this model that I'm just not seeing?
Like I said, I don't mean to be critical, and I certainly don't want to upset a seller, but I'm just not understanding the price on this item. (?)
Does anyone have a clue what's going on with it?

It seems these will be repainted, hand built models w/a 3 week turn-around.

So if this is the case, I would request pictures from the seller of other repaints he has done. Not being negative but $150 includes the cost of the starter car (if not bought at a warehouse club at least $30.00 shipped) deducted from the repaint cost then subtracting actual material costs stripper, primer, paint, clear, various sandpapers, polishes and such you are left with about $100.00 to do complete repaint. Given (at least my process) takes 10-15 hours to complete per car he is making Walmart money. Again, no slight to him, someone who does it as a hobby can base there charges anyway they want. Plus think about it, its a Maisto, they do each model in every color under the sun so that's something to consider also.

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure what this seller is doing. I think he's simply offering repaints to......
...customers. I've painted several diecast models but I never strip factory finishes (unless necessary). I find I get much better paint adhesion when applied over a "lightly sanded" factory, baked-on, finish.
As I've said before, regardless of the methods employed when changing colors on replicas....NOTHING will be as good (durable) as that achieved at the factory.

Thanks for the feedback, guys! That's pretty-much what I figured, but thought I'd better ask for...
... clarification.
Although I don't think Maisto models generally have a meticulously excellent paint job, even with a meticulously excellent paint job, I don't think I could justify paying $150 for a Maisto model. Although I'd love to see the result he produces (more out of curiosity than anything else), I just don't think it would ever be on that quality level.
Another thing to consider is the shipping. Although, admittedly, I haven't ordered a model in about six months, he's asking $25.00 S&H for the 48 contiguous United States. That may not be completely outrageous, but I'm not sure where he's getting his quoted shipping cost.
Well... best of luck to him anyway!

I beg to differ sir. I have a couple cars painted by me over 10 years ago that still look new yet I always see newer releases with paint rash that aren't even 5 years old. Its all about the prep. This was painted 11 years ago.
