or maybe Jerry Seinfeld's protege, the iconic 1969 #20 Porsche 917K chassis #917-022 that was sold to Steve McQueen's Solar Productions and driven by the man himself in the 1971 movie "Le Mans" is up for auction. Sold after the to driver Reinhold Joest and raced at least 8 times and then had its best successes with the next owner Jo Siffert still sporting the now famous "Gulf" livery. Later owned by a few more racing enthusiasts, it went to auction, consigned by Richard Attwood at RM in 2000 and sold for $1,320,000 to... Jerry Seinfeld. So, shake the loose change out of your piggy bank and head to the Mecum Auction at Kissimmee, FLA this January. Be there, or be square!
Not sure how long I have had mine - it is by AutoArt (1/18th) and I have it sitting on an unwatched but pristine copy of "LeMans" - VHS Tape!!
@perrone1 I'd say this model was issued at least in the 'aughts'. It's old (and so are we).
I'm not far from Kissimmee, that would be fun to go see.
such a fantastic looking model in an iconic livery...then add the movie tie-in. Simply fantastic.
@gavin I bought that psychedelic 917 way back when. I never opened the box and it's been sitting on a closet shelf all these years. I don't know why, because it sure looks cool.
