The 1966 Charger was the end result of concept cars from the prior 2 years utilizing the Coronet "B" body and reworking it to cash in on the fastback craze, much like the 1st generation Barracuda did with the Valiant. With a base engine being the venerable 318 V8 and multiple V8 options all the way to the 426 Hemi, Dodge was was hawking its performance chops. The obvious derivative design cues, however, made it a poor seller. The next generation's dedicated body style became iconic and desirable to this day.

Really nice pictures of a car I've learned to like over the years.

MY father was intrigued by the roof lines on these cars and when it came time for a new car, he bought a full sized '68 390 Ford fastback (he was a Ford guy).
What got him so interested in the fastbacks? Now he could stow his salt water poles inside the car without having to buy another station wagon. LOL

With the rear seat backs folded down you could fit lots of long items into these cars. I always liked the full length console.
These are such cool cars and models. Both the Ertl Authentics and the Yat Ming releases are excellent at their different price/detail points.
The older I get, the more I like these.... glad I purchased a few of the 1/18 Authentics when I did. 😀 😀Â
