German engineer Carl F W Borgward Designed his first little 3-wheeled truck, the Goliath Blitzkarren in 1924. By 1933, he managed the merger of 3 companies including Hansa-Lloyd to create Borward AG producing small passenger cars until 1942. He restarted the company after the war expanding his lineup. He was intrigued by the American "Big Three" Motorama style concept cars for their marketing potential. By 1955, he had designed and built this futuristic "Traumwagen", or 'dream car', with its flip-up bubble top and lightweight streamlined alloy body. It was actually built to showcase a new 2.5 liter flat 4 aluminum alloy 4 stroke that produced an impressive 130 hp. Unfortunately, just before it was to be unveiled at the '55 Frankfurt Auto Show, a brake system failure ended in a severe crash and the wrecked car was back at the factory. It took quite a few years to restore the car with some added upgrades and it was destined to be shown in 1961, when bankruptcy ended Borgward AG. The Traumwagen disappeared during the bankruptcy proceedings, presumed scrapped, never to be presented to the public. Model by Best of Show.
A really interesting European dreamcar. Very nice one !
