The 1969 Manta Ray concept was a reworked 1965 Mako Shark ll that featured, among other things a whole new roof line. The available only through COPO for '69 was its all aluminum 430hp 427 cid ZL-1 V8. This car, for me, was the ultimate expression of the C-3 Mako Shark design. An unusual feature lies with the two flaps near the rear of the deck that raise vertically under hard braking to function as air brakes. I absolutely adore this UT model.
Two words: "Stun! Ning!"
I don't collect concepts (I have but a few) but, if I did.... THIS ONE would be on the list of "must-haves." Perhaps a tad too busy in its execution but you can't deny the very appealing slippery shape. It almost looks like it could actually swim! ...and, as one who hates black interiors, I can tell you that seeing this subtle-misty-calming-sea-water-milky-blue-cream seating area is a treat!
