With race speeds of 190 mph, this 1937 Merceedes-Benz produced a race tuned 595 HP with its 5.7 liter supercharged DOHC 8. Bench trials on the that engine, the horsepower went up to 627 HP @ 5800 rpm. The car stood as the most powerful race car until the late '60s CanAm cars. Rudolf Uhlenhaut took the prior year's W25 Gran Prix car and stiffened the chassis and increased the suspension throw to keep all four wheels on the ground. As things always go with the FIA, the car was just a one hit wonder as the following year, supercharged engines were limited 3.0 liters which actually paved the way for the 300 SLR Silver Arrows to follow.

Thanks for informative post and stunning photographs. I particularly like the truck and have never seen a '30s transporter.
