In 2004 Pontiac resurrected the GTO employing platform from GM Australia... the Holden Monaro. It disappointed a lot of gearheads who were anticipating a more retro and muscular looking vehicle. It certainly had some muscle with a 6 speed manual 350HP LS1 V8, but where's sexy hood scoops? Well our government overseers approved the Monaro for import, but when Pontiac wanted to add the hood scoops, they demanded the car go through all the tests again, so the 2004 "GTO" appeared with a shaved hood. In 2005 (this model), the GTO got its hood scoops along with the 400HP LS6 V8 and it became a real screamer. Although performance specs were off the charts, it never captured a significant demographic for sufficient sales. So, 2006 marked the end of the GTO rebirth.
A very under rated, under promoted car whose looks were too much like too many makes on the market. From a style standpoint this car could have been mistaken for a Honda, Toyota, BMW, etc.,etc. Too bad.
I have that one as well...Nicely done model with loads of details.
I've always liked this generation of the GTO, especially the later cars with dual/dual exhaust & the 6.0L. They all sound incredible.

I agree completely. I was stunned at how they rolled this "rebirth" out.
Very cool and well-done model ! GM had some things right, like a rwd layout and strong V-8, but they missed a chance to truly bring back a real American style GTO.
