I love all the detail on CMC's 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196 R Stromlinienwagon (Streamliner) when you pop the top half of the body. It makes me wish I could have it both ways with a rolling chassis next to whole model. This beautiful car was bodied in the electron magnesium alloy used my Bugatti in the very early 1930s most notably on the Type 57 SC "Atlantic". The #18 model is the French Grand Prix winner that year driven by Juan Manuel Fangio.
I have this one but have never looked under the skin. Fascinating and now I want a naked one too to place beside it. Marty, my grill is correctly fitted.
Pardon me for my lack of clarity. In another photo of Rich's car, the proper fitment of the grill is shown. I was trying to ask whether it pivots by design. I was wondering if the actual car might have that option, because during a race, the front of the grille can get clogged with debris, and perhaps Mercedes designed the grille to pivot to allow cool air to reach the radiator.I have this one, but have never looked under the skin. Is it actually designed that way, or was it just loose and popping out?
It swivels. I opened it a bit for that pic. Check pic #2.
What's stopping you, Rich, get a second one!It makes me wish I could have it both ways with a rolling chassis next to whole model.
@paul-rouffa I wish for a lot of things. I have room for... nothing. LOL
