At the beginning of the 21th century, Nissan was struggling financially, Chairman Carlos Ghosn ( yeah the guy that was smuggled out of Japan in a suitcase) decided that Nissan needed a flagship sports car to compete with the likes of Porsche and Ferrari as part of his sweeping "Nissan Revival Plan". Harking back to their successful Skyline GT-R series, he wanted that GT-R brand resurrected as a 2+2 sports/grand touring car. His only other input was that the car would feature the 4 round tail lamps of its predecessor. Design plans flooded in from world class designers. As Nissan's Chief Designer and Chief Engineer began to integrate the ideas and put Japanese cultural elements into it, it was decided to provide the proper performance, they needed a new dedicated platform. Finally, by 2007, the rolled out the first of the new GT-R series. The first gen would employ a 473 HP 3.8 liter twin turbo V6 with a 6 speed dual clutch Borg Warner transmission. In following generation the horsepower yield would hit 710 HP. It achieved a goal of making both a user friendly street car with aerodynamics fit for the track.
As to Mr Ghosn, he was ousted and arrested for financial misconduct in 2018. He escaped from house arrest and is now living in Beirut, Lebanon as the international arrest warrant was never executed.
This AUTOart model is of the 1st generation (2007-2009) and was released in 2009.
I love the clean styling of this car.

A beautifully done replica that almost looks like a composite, not diecast.... but it must surely be diecast. AA was doing "plastic" in 2009, right? 🤔 🤔
@chris Yup. It's adiecast model.
It is one heck of a beautiful model. It has a ton of detail. I can forgive AutoArt for the unbranded tires however I cannot excuse the lack of tire valve stems. Steve
My son had a 14 which he recently sold. What a great car to drive and it was extremely fast. I know he misses it, but he recently bought a 2019 Ford Shelby F100, with has over 700hp and moves out nicely. He now has 2 young toddlers so that is the reason for the swap. Like me now he will probably have to wait until the kids are grown that he can pursue another sports car. I had to wait until my 4 kids got old enough to drive to get me my Challenger that I have wanted ever since they came out in 2008.
"I had to wait until my 4 kids got old enough to drive......"
And that's why I had just one. I wasn't about to ever give up any "toys;" I was too self-centered & selfish for that. Actually, I had more "crap" back then; I've become more streamlined & lazier with each passing day.
