By the late '60s, Porsche was considering the fate of the 911 and if was reaching the end of its development as basically an evolution of the 356. They wanted to replace their flagship 811 with an all new luxury touring car to be powered by a water-cooled SOHC V8 thhu a rear mounted transaxle for the even weight distribution that would make it easier to handle than the squirrelly 911. It was a 2+2 design with the small rear seats folding down for luggage space. The 928 was produced from 1978 to 1995 with continuous upgrades to the V8 and aerodynamics. This AUTOart model represents a fairly early model, probably a '79 as it appears to be fuel injected but lacks front and rear spoilers. I love the 'op art' "Pasha" seat trim patterns.
I never cared for the car but love the model. I have the model in a brown color, while not attractive, was none the less accurate. Nice pictures and writeup Rich.
I never cared for the 928, until my dad borrowed one from a coworker for the weekend. His was a grey '84 S 5-speed. It was comfortable & fast & sounded great. My dad ended up buying one new in '86, an S in Guarnet Red (think burgandy). AA did a really great job on these, though I really wish they'd also done the later S, S4, GT and/or final GTS (the S4 & GTS have been done, but both in sealed diecast)
Great colors on both these beauties. Nice !
