"Big John" Mazmanian's '61 Corvette Drag Car was an 11 second monster on the strip. He started out with a stock 4 speed 283 fuel injection. Over the next year he continually upgrade the 283 with 4-71 blower with Hillborn injection, a two speed B&M Hydro trans and a whole lot of Edelbrock and Iskendarian internals. Now painted in Candy Apple Persimmon, the final upgrade included the 327 and a 6-71 blower which boosted horsepower to over 600.
This model is a Precision Miniature replica.
Nice, while this would fit in my race car only collection, I do have one 1/4 mile car model, the 1/18 Autoworld 1968 Ford Mustang sponsored by Rice and Holman Ford and driven by Al Joinec and the only reason I got it is because it brings back memories of my childhood. The Ford dealership that sponsored it was 5 minutes from my boyhood home and I remember seeing it a few times at the dealership when it raced locally at Atco Raceway. If I go down the 1/4 mile drag car rabbit hole, the boss will get pretty upset, since she always says when a box is delivered "another model to add to the bunch, pretty soon there will only be display/curio cabinets in our home".
@old-caddys - Your consternation with the "Big Boss" reminds me of my own experience. I vividly recall a years ago conversation with my wife complaining every time a model came into the home. I reminded her that this is all that I spend money on. I don't drink, gamble, do drugs, party, buy electronics, clothes, or other expensive vices. I don't own horses, boats, jet skis, motorcycles, etc. The only pleasure I spend on myself is model cars (and of course, my 1:1s too). So, with that being the case, I insist on models coming into the home without the constant barrage of remarks. She agreed. However, while she stopped with the comments, I'd still get the side-eye. So now, I just try to sneak them in without her seeing them. It's just easier. LOL!
This is a magnificent model and worth way more than they cost. On eBay, they can be frequently be obtained for less than $100. However, even when they're more, it's worth the money. The scaling and detail of this model are spot-on accurate. BTW, the box art has a description of the car that was written by our very own Bill Bennett.
One of the few race cars in my collection. It's a 61 Vette so I had to have it.
A really impressive model ..... and it's a Corvette !
Marty, I had forgotten that Bill Bennett had written the box art description. Coincidentally Bill came through here this week on his way to the East Coast. We had coffee but he plans to come back through on his way back home in a week or so. He has an appointment next week to do an interview with Don Garlitz. Glad you mentioned Bill's name.
@bob-jackman One the plus side, it doesn't have any numbers on it. LOL
@franklemire Did you just use the 6-71 with the Hillborn or the whole small block 327?
