WAHOO!!! Kudos to ACME! They're saving me the trouble of a future project I had in mind!
ACME is going to do the 1965 A/FX Mustangs! They're starting with Bill Lawton's Tasca Ford version but also will do the Gas Ronda Mustang as well! I've been accumulating parts to do the '65 A/FX Gas Ronda version. Now, I won't have to. All I have to do is wait! And that, I can do!

Hurray for you !! Now you'll have 2 Gas Ronda's. I need to go back and see your pics again.
Do you know what extreior color / Decals ???
This IS good news (and why wasn't it done before..right?) I hope the wait doesn't exceed 2yrs (CV)
I've been lobbying for these cars for years. The conventional wisdom has been...
... that according to model makers who would incur the financial risk, that the Ford's don't have the loyal following as does Mopars and Chevys.
In past discussions I've had with a number of model manufacturers, they have taken the position that Ford drag racing products haven't sold very well. I've reasoned that since the focus has been on lesser-known drag racers that those products consequently weren't reliable tests of brand loyalty or marketability. It was my opinion that the big name factory drivers would have been far more successful. Consequently, I disagreed with that assessment and thought the A/FX factory Mustangs would be a natural and especially so since there are so many versions that can be done with the same tool. Amortizing the tooling cost is a major consideration for model makers.
Now, it's fair to point out that my opinion on the marketability of the A/FX model car Mustangs was 10 years ago when the nostalgic audience that would be most interested was still vibrant enough, and young enough to purchase these cars. Most of the old '60s drag racers are getting long in the tooth and many of us are dying off. I believe there was a market for the cars then but for the reasons I just mentioned I'm not sure I have the same confidence now.
Apparently, ACME sees the opportunity the same way as I once did. Time will tell if it works out for them. I know I'll be good for the Tasca, Gas Ronda, and if they go beyond those two, the Dick Brannan A/FX car. The best news for me is I was accumulating parts to do the Gas Ronda Mustang. Now that ACME is stepping up they're going to save me the trouble.
Since I'm literally out of space, I'm not sure where I'd display them. I'm seriously thinking about freeing up some room by liquidating my 1:24 scale collection. Those take up an entire file cabinet and that scale isn't as important to me.
The Al Joniec Mustang has been done by Autoworld.
From the time I was born until I was 33 years old, I used to live about 5 minutes from the Rice and Holman ford dealership and remember seeing that car there many times. I never saw it on the strip at Atco Raceway. I've let the model slip through my fingers on the "bay" many times and they can be sometimes hard to find. If Acme makes that one, I won't snooze this time around.
I'm a Mopar guy but I will buy a couple of these.
My AWB Mopars are lonely.
Marty, I have no doubt you'll free up space for one (or MORE!) of these 'Stangs.
I agree! They need some competition! The mighty SOHC should be just about right!
