What happened to the model car reviews? Lot's of new stuff constantly being...
... brought to market but in the old days, they were reviewed here. Then of course, the rest of us would chime in pouring over every detail that we loved and hated.
What happened?

Short answer for me.............
We are past the halfway point in 2015 and I've added just four cars to my collection. I posted reviews of two of them. Of the other two, one was covered by someone else and the other - a 1969 Matra F-1 car - I felt a bit too esoteric a piece to review on this site. It had also been out for a while and 'new to me' is not the same as 'new'.
For this reviewer, the cars that are coming out are not the cars I'm looking for or they are sealed models and cost more than I'm willing to spend.
Historically I've been adding 25+ a year with a fair number of them getting posted as reviews but you can't review what you don't have.

The "Zone" used to have a host of reviewers that provided in-depth analysis...
... of many new issues that were provided to them for that purpose. I've always had the impression that you were not of that group and your reviews were impromptu and of models you purchased. The Zone reviews used to generate a lot of buzz about the model but also some spirited discussions. I miss those days.

I am one of those reviewers............
but never limited myself to just reviewing models sent to me for review. Those 'review' models are coming less frequently from the manufacturers so reviews are limited to what is purchased.
From my end, I will actually be doing a review soon of a 1958 Ferrari 250 TR - I got ordered one - so be on the lookout.

No, it was a good question
I too have always looked forward to model reviews on this site and others because they tend to be more honest than commercial reviews.
I would encourage any collector with a camera to post photo reviews of any new acquisitions.

and my budget has its limitations.

Hmmm, I dunno. Seems like the return would easily justify the model....
... no longer being MIB.
I tend to view virtually every situation through a business prism perspective. I just think more reviews = more interest and participation which = more eyes on the forum = more potential Legacy sales.
Maybe it's just me but I think there seems to be a climate of letting these forums die. As a long time member who donated mightily to help keep The Zone alive, I'd just like to see a revitalization of interest and participation. Reviews of models would go a long way in generating interest, traffic, and I think would be a healthy ROI.

If nothing else, it would seem a good business decision. Good reviews and good photography sells models. There's no doubt there.

If I am not buying anything I can't review it. 2015 so far 0 diecast purchase, one on pre-order.
