No Face for the problem

James:

I do not think that it is a proper statement as I would know to project President Obama The President of these united States as the person to blame for General motors and chrysler's problems. I would be more concerned about our health care than labeling our president the reason for General motors and Chrysler's failure to sell the American Public what it truly wants.

I think for a long time we enabled the American auto industry to get away with a lot of unnecessary spending.
with the economy walking a very thin line I am surprised General motors and Chrysler were bailed out in the first place.

It all comes trickling down to you and me If they don't do well ,we don't do well. So I can say I am not happy that someone put a face to the problems at hand. I think we will all have to tighten our belt and be cautious of how
we spend our money and that is the lesson I see being given to General Motors and Chrysler.

It is the choice of the American people who choose what they want to buy and right now the cars we produce with the exception of a few are failing to bring in profits to keep them a round.

two American performance icons

A good place to start would be mustang Club of America and the Corvette museum. These folks would now. Corvette concours judges even want all the ill fitting panels as they left the factory.

I would have to say that since ford has had a chance to continue for a long time the Mustang and general claim to having the only true built American sports car that these two dominate the Performance field in American car culture.

Bib frumpy fat trucks.

Has anyone else notice the signal mom or young teenager pulling up next to you while your at a light and a big shadow is cast wit the rubbling sound of a 5.7 hemi or Ford 150 that looks like its on stilts and thyroid medicine. Give me a break. Do you really think other than construction workers and plumbers that the average family need a huge automobile wasting gas and most of all I Hate when they part next to you and the woman who gets out opens her door in to your because she is too big and cannot get out.

I also do not appreciate some one blowing rap music at 400 disciples into my ears. and car makers like ford are hip to this and putting 1000 watt stereo systems in so you can crank up the music to compensate for your bad driving.

Who feeds these beast, most of all it would take a crew of threes to wash one. no wonder I see them rooting out side.

What's worth saving?

Collectible Automobile runs a series with some guesses. I can't remember them all. Two that I do remember are the Oldsmobile Aurora,in its first iteration, and the Ford Contour SVT. Certainly one milestone car would be the first Chrysler Minivan and I expect that the Chrysler 300 will be around, including the new version along with the Dodge Charger Hemi. We have indeed seen some exciting cars with some startling advances in performance, reliability and safety. Here's one benchmark on safety. Driving with my Dad in his 03 Honda Accord V6, whacked by a red light runner driving a Ford Taurus (I'd guess about a 2000) and I mean really whacked at the rear quarter. Spun our car around 360 degrees, side airbag deployed. Honda and Ford were drive aways, not towed although it looked like the Ford was leaking coolant. Both drivers and passengers belted in, nobody hurt. Yeah his car was a mess and cost a lot to fix. However, he has a '51 Ford wagon and remarked that he was dam glad he wasnt't driving that car. Aside from totaling a collector car, we'd have probably been both in the hospital with nothing but lap belts and the car would certainly not be a drive away.
As for styling, check out the new GM products. Will they be collectible? No way of telling but you are looking at a return of styling, very significant performance advances along with reliability and safety.
