My first 1:18 diecast "precision" model was a Burago Ferrari Testarossa.  I remember how I marveled at the HUGE size and the operating features like opening doors, frunk, and steerable wheels!  And, it was METAL like a real car!  I'm unsure of the year, but I think it was 1983 or 1984.  I still have it, but for display purposes, it's since been replaced with a Hot Wheels Elite version.  It has been relegated to a closet purely for nostalgia as my first diecast model.

Great question...AND... EVERYTHING you said is EXACTLY what I said/thought at the time.  A friend of mine bought me a 1/18 Maisto 1959 Cadillac Eldorado identical to this one.  Years later I pirated parts, stripped it, etc...  but still have the "car-cus"  (get it?  😏) somewhere.  At one point, I was using the chassis for a better detailed '63, but that project stalled.

That '63 would / could be a nice addition to your collection Chris.

Nice replicas ! My first automobiles around this scale were a zinc alloy 1/22 1930 Packard and a 1/18 scale Duesenberg, both in kit form. I basically still have both models and they are from the early 1960's.

my first 1:18 model was a birthday gift from my uncle when I was 3...Corgi's Lotus 72D.  I still have it, but its in pretty rough shape, as you can imagine.

the 1:18 that really got me hooked on this scale was Bburago's Jaguar SS100 when I was 9.  Still have that one, too.

 From early 1960s. I wonder what happened to it. Those Hubley kits were great

The Hubley's were really nice diecast models. Perhaps the kits still could be around in some form from some manufacturer.

I agree, but all were 1/20 scale except for the 1/18 Duesenbergs (formal sedan & phaeton ).  A while back I started one with the goal of correcting & enhancing the chassis. The more I learned, the more I realized... I was over my head.  🤔 🤔

I agree but I halted this project when I realized the 1/18 JADA body was just a bit too far from accurate to be turned into a decent replica, despite being at 1/18 scale. It makes a GREAT 1/18 toy though.

A few years ago BOS released a wonderful 1/18 1963 Cadillac Sedan de Ville but in sealed-resin form. 😔 😔

I don't think I've ever seen pics of that Cadillac. I'll have to look it up. There are certain year Cadillac models that I like and the early 60s to the mid 60s were some of the best ones ever style wise in my opinion.

It seems that Creative Masters thought that 1/20 was a good and legitimate compromise scale between 1/24 and 1/18 and that perhaps both scale advocates might compromise of such a size. Obviously, Diecast Promotions/Highway 61 did their excellent scale trucks in 1/16 "farm scale" and I am happy to have their fine 1/16 1940 Ford stake truck.

I'm pretty sure my first 18th scale model was a Bburago MBZ Gullwing in red. That's sooo many years ago.

@gavin I used to collect Bburago's 1/18 kits. Here's my Jag SS 100:

(Forgive the old grainy photos)
