A tie with 55 & 56. The 56 is a bit 'cleaner' in style, but the 55 reminds me of my 1st Starfire Cv

Oh Steve...you know this one is tough for me. But, the '55 by a small margin.

Will say though that the '56 dash is a slight improvement on the beautiful dashes of the '54 and '55.

And yes I know, you can't see the dashes in the photos, but with every car that you post, I always also envision the dashes in my mind.

The dash of a car has always been important to me, because once you are driving (or riding) in the car, the dash is what you see.

And oh man...I'd love to have all three of these lined up on my car shelf. Smile

Couldn't say it better than Gene. And this from the current owner of a 56.

'56 for style, '55 for color.

Tough call but I'm going with the '56.

Hi George, I just wanted to comment why I prefer the 56

As trivial as it is, I like the 56 better because the rear wheel is centered in the wheel well.
The 54 and 55 have a skirt on them with the opening being off center of the wheel.
Being the Old's fanatic that you are, i just thought you might like to know.
Respectfully,
Mark

As a fellow Olds lover Mark, I can relate to your comments. Thanks!

'54. Generally, I find the first year of a design to be the best. Not always, but usually.

After the fist year, the temptation is to "spruce up", i.e., add to a design. Designs tend to get busier with more chrome added, etc. with less consideration of the overall design. Today, when designs don't change for years sometimes, that means a good design will be around for awhile to enjoy, but a mediocre or bad design will haunt us for years!

1954!

Clean, pure, balanced. There must have been something in the air in Detroit afterwards, car designers sacrificed taste and restraint for cheap glitz.

Three gorgous automobiles! I like the side view w/ skirts on the '54.....the side and front on the '55, and all of the '56...three of my favorite Oldsmobiles...
