I was never really a fan of the very different looking '61 T-Birds. They were different looking in the sense that they were 180 degrees opposite of the previous three years of "Square Birds". And I loved those "Square Birds" and this new "Bullet Styled" '61 when I was young was a bit radical for my taste. But in the last decade or so, I've seen the '61 in a different light and have come to actually admire the styling. When DM offered this "4,000 pounds of fireworks" presented in this Flyer, I originally said no. When I finally woke up and saw the "style to spare" on this now iconic design, When I got the notice of its pending retirement from production I was excited to add it to my collection. The color pops too!

The 1961 FORD THUNDERBIRD
As mentioned above, I originally passed on this T-Bird, but when this second Flyer arrived announcing its retirement from production soon, I jumped on the bandwagon and ordered it. I might add that this second Flyer was more enticing than the first one and certainly made the model look more appealing.

I have all of the Thunderbirds by DM and FM. My biggest regret is that the 63 was never made.
@bob-jackman, I will agree with you on the '63. It would have been nice. I was always hoping for consecutive years of cars.

Ditto George and Bob. BTW, did you notice that the issue price of this Bird jumped from $112 + $7.80 shipping to $129 + $9.00 shipping at retirement?

Yes I did notice that Pete, because I paid the higher price.
I think thought that that price jump was pretty average across the board by that time.

I added this one as a “used car”. Mom bought me the white 1962 TBird as a birthday gift and I loved it. It seemed like the Turquoise one was available on DM website for ever, so I didn’t hurry as there were always other models I wanted to add first. Then one day GONE! Lucky for me I picked up a MIB one for less then $80 shipped to me a few years ago.
A really excellent model. I added mine when it was 1st issued. The color does "pop"
