an early coach lamp?
John, I think that is an intake for the air conditioning. Many times in those years I think they had part of the installations in the trunk.
@john-barry John, they also show up on my 1955 Cadillac in 1/43 from Greenlight and my 1955 Imperial in 1/18 from Signature. I think pretty soon everything went under the hood and these vents no longer appeared. But, you know, these intakes would make for really cool coach lamps !
My dad bought a new 1954 Pontiac Star Chief Custom sedan with factory A/C. The entire A/C unit was under the hood yet Cadillac continued to put part of the unit in the trunk through 1956.JB, the plastic tubes in the rear window directed cool air into the cabin.

I had to look to see what "tubes" you referred to.....of course, once spotted in Tony`s detailed photos, they become impossible NOT to see....thanks for pointing that out Bob
I love every photo on this thread. Thanks everyone for sharing!

Mike hit it. I believe I covered it in my original review; I recall finding some 1:1 photos of the air intake system. This helps too: https://www.curbsideclassic.com/blog/cold-comfort/cold-comfort-1955-cadillac-fleetwood/
@perrone1.................. thanks for the link Tony....very interesting to see some of the evolution of "air"......it seems that, despite tossing tons of hardware into the interior, there still remained vaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaast prairies of open space
