Stirling Moss with navigator Denis Jenkinson won the 1955 Mille Miglia with this Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR. Fun fact: it's designated number 722 was actually it's starting time of 7:22 AM. With its 298hp 3 liter straight 8, it reached speeds of 170mph at times along the course. This win ensured Mercedes the 1955 sports-car world championship title to add to its Formula One success.
This is one of those incredible PMA models that 20 years ago were just top of the line with their 300SLR silver arrows models and were only eclipsed years later by CMC's 1/18 line up.
Richard I have the PMA 1:24 Gullwing (bottom pic far right) I agree for their time these were leaders in 1:24. The fine spokes “sold me”. Great post, thanks !
This is as good as it gets in 1/24 for the #722 car. I have the CMC and several versions in 1/43 but not the one. Great post Rich. Thanks.
.. have this one and 7 of his historic team mates parked on my shelf... really very well done by Paul's Model Art and CMC...
great shots Rich, I have number 19, searching hard for the other 2 at a reasonable price.
