This 1960 restored 1960 Mercedes-Benz 300SL (W198) Roadster with almost 96K on the odometer is the absolute spitting image of our 9th club car model. The high auction bid in 2021 of $860,000 did not meet its reserve. The Classic.Com Market Benchmark (CMB) for this car was $1,330,126. Production for this open top 300SL began in 1957 specifically for the California market with production ending in 1963 with 1858 examples made. Its 3.0 liter straight 6 was rated at 240HP - slightly higher than the coupes to make up for the extra weight. The classic white harkens back to the pre-'silver arrows' days the white was the German racing color. ( Mercedes and Audi changed to silver by removing the paint and polishing the aluminum to save weight). Like our LE, the roadster came with a removable hard top and/or soft top.
Magnificent car and model. I’d love to add either one to my collection but I suspect that the full sized version might bankrupt me.
I stood firm on wanting the European headlights on that one. LOVE 'EM!
thanks to the kind generosity of fellow board contributor and club member Chav, I now have this in my collection. Beautiful model, and looks so much better in white, and as always great pics Rich, thanks.
