By 1988, Chrysler owned Lamborghini and went to them to help design their specialty - a V10. At Chrysler's Design Studio, Bob Lutz was looking to create a modern Cobra. This concept car really raised the morale at Chrysler/Dodge as they were getting really depressed working on Lee Iacocca's K-Cars. Lamborghini casted the first V12 block for their test mule and the metal body was built by Metalcrafters. After the positive reaction from consumers to the concept car, they finally convinced Iacocca to release the $70 million needed to begin production. This SR1 began with an 8 litter V10 that produced 400 HP. Later generations would top at at 645 HP. They saved a lot of money developing the Viper with Lamborghini and Metalcrafters keeping it all in-house, that the first gen production car had an MSRP of only $52K. Produced until 2017, when financial difficulties caused the Viper program to end, the final production number was 32,000. This 30 year old Creative Master model of the 1st gen SR1 still holds up pretty well. I think the dealer sticker on the windscreen was sort of a cool touch.
we could comb our hair in the paintwork! thanks Rich
