OK, yesterday's post indicated that it would be the last pickup in this series of posts, but the conversation related to that post touched on the pickups of today, which are a far cry from what they were in the 30s, 40s, 50s & even into the 60s. By the late 50s and early 60s, the pickup began to evolve, more features and options similar to the cars of the era were available. In the 70s & 80s they evolved even further and at a faster rate which it is at that pace they continued. Where we are today are basically luxury boxes on wheels. The only really recognizable feature that remains today is a pickup bed. Having driven a pickup for nearly 30 years now, my current pickup is 15 years old and while it is very luxury oriented, it still doesn't compare with today's truck. It may haul stuff around (as do the ones made today) but it does it in style and comfort, isn't that what's all about anyway. As a kid, we had a '67 Chevrolet C-10 to haul around wood and other stuff around the property, I learned to drive in that thing at 13-14 years old, I couldn't imagine driving it today the same way I do my current pickup.
Anyway, with yesterday's discussion I looked through my photo collection and came across this "new generation" pickup as a comparison. As a model, it doesn't have the features and details of DMs models, but it definitely represents where we are with the pickups of today.
