Franklin Mint's 1936 Bugatti Type 57 SC Berlinetta is an early FM model that looks pretty nice despite the old tech that's most notable for its featureless 2-D dash, dog leg hinges wiper molded into the windscreen and relatively bare engine compartment. As a stablemate, I picked up a $12 Bburago kit of an earlier 1932 Type 55 roadster kit and found it almost identical in fit, finish and parts count. For $12, I didn't mind futzing around with it so I painted a faux burl wood finish to the dash and took out the die punch set to create bezeled 'glass' from clear butrate. I covered the external arm rests with masking tape and painted it to match the leather seats and trim. I painted the fitted luggage to give them a distressed and matching leather finish. I painted the Bugatti ova red and tried my best to paint the marque in white. I really like "ƎB" moniker on the headlamp brace.
Now, the Bburago:
Love them both. Wonderful detail work, Rich on that Bburago Bugatti.
Have both, love both but my Bburago doesn't have that detailed touch. Nice work Rich.
Rich,
I love seeing what you do ! Thank-you for sharing your pics with "we mortals".
Steve
have had the FM along with the yellow and black versions for years. You had me thinking about the Bburago, but would only get as far as 'timbering' the dash. Great work Rich, you've bought it up to the FMs standard.
