This 1915 Stutz Bearcat speedster was a lightweight sports car built on their shortened passenger car chassis. It differed from their successful "White Squadron" race cars by adding fenders, head lamps and a trunk. It was powered by a 390 cid 60 hp straight 4 cylinder engine built by the Wisconsin Motor Manufacturing Co.. The Bearcat was conceived in 1911 when it was advertised in the Indy 500 program. The racing history began in 1912 and it won 25 out of 30 races. In this stock 1915 form, it was driven by Erwin "Cannon Ball" Baker from California to New York in a little over 11 days, shattering the previous record and became the inspiration for the later Cannon Ball Run.
Fabulous pictures of a fabulous model Rich. No history of the automobile is complete without this model represented IMO.
Rich, not my cup of tea, but a very nice presentation. Thanks
@bob-jackman right on Bob! Great pics and succinct history Rich. One of FMs finest. How about "Cannonball" for a nickname?
Love that round wind screen. A 390 CI 4 cylinder must have had HUGE cylinders and pistons!
Thanks for the fine pictures Richard. This is one of my models that never fails to put a smile one my face and was very well done IMO. I ALSO have that 1911 Rolls but I don’t believe it was referred to as a Ghost, and definitely not “Silver Ghost” I think that was the 1907 silver/green interior.
