Carroll Shelby's 1966 twin Paxton supercharged 800 HP 427 roadster. Of two built, CSX 3015 survived and sold for $5 million. The other, privately owned, went off a cliff and into the Pacific. It has a special 3 speed automatic transmission and a 3.51 rear axle. It did the quarter mile in 12.4 seconds but for the life of me, I can't see how you could keep the car on the ground.
Very cool, and very lethal venom there. Cool story, model and pics Rich. Man, that's sweet.💯👍
Well since it went off a cliff it’s pretty evident that that driver couldn’t keep it on the ground.
Rich, thanks for the information and photos. I have all the Shelby's that FM produced. All great models.
@rich-sufficool Rich love your posts, it made me check out the loss of the second vehicle....
- The Car: The car involved in the accident was CSX 3303.
- First Owner: Bill Cosby purchased the car but returned it after a single drive, claiming it was too frightening and difficult to handle. Cosby famously discussed this experience on his 1968 comedy album "200 M.P.H.".
- Second Owner/Accident: After Cosby returned the car, it was sold to a man named Tony Maxey.
- The Incident: Tragedy struck when Maxey was driving the Super Snake along the Pacific Coast Highway in California. Reportedly, the throttle became stuck.
- Outcome: Maxey lost control, driving the car off a cliff and into the Pacific Ocean. The car was destroyed, and Maxey died from his injuries.
- Status of the Car: The wreckage of CSX 3303 was recovered, but the car was never seen again and is generally considered lost.
