Yeah; definitely, certain Scotches and a few Bourbons leave a barrel-wood taste in the mouth. Not so with Balvenie 21 Year Old  PortWood or even Evan Williams 1783.

@perrone1 So far, I've only made it to a couple of 15 year old single malt scotches for special occasions (like Friday night).
