After looking at DM's dwindling inventory .......

Seeing so many cars "disappear" from their inventory I was thinking..... Do you think it's possible that DM too is getting out of the die-cast business? OR this is just a temporary dry spell due to China not being able to manufacture our models due to various problems over there? While part of me (the financial part LOL), can't say this is a bad thing and I know then that aside from some cars on the secondary market my collection would be complete, I would miss the new releases and proposed new releases tremendously AND I hardly feel my collection IS complete! Still many more iconic and beautiful cars to be made, 66 Toronado, 65 Riviera, 67-70 Cougars, 60s Grand Prix, Bonnevilles, LTDs, Marquis, etc.. etc... Lets hope our 1:24th hobby continues. A short dry spell will allow me to focus on BUILDING my display room, and hold onto a little $$$, but after that I'm ready to continue collecting! Anyone else feel this way????

Oh Man Oh Man,

Every where I go I imagine white boxes on door steps and rip them open only to find they are empty, I can't hold a job, I picture sixties cars on my display wall, I have withdrawn from my friends and sit in rooms in the fetal position with the blinds drawn. I spend countless hour staring into space.
I have not showered or shaved in weeks. I am constantly checking this site for any hope of brand new releases from DM or even FM.
If only, if only

Mark

Mark, that was a funny read and I got a chuckle out of that one. Phil, I think...

... we're all hoping this is a temporary issue for DM. We know the factory snafu is real as other diecast companies are suffering from the same problem. It would seem to me, that if DM has found a solution, they would have the courtesy and strategic wisdom to announce it to collector groups like us. I'm certain we comprise a small portion of their overall business but we are a major segment when it comes to customer loyalty and repeat business. Their silence on the issue only allows us to speculate on worst case scenarios.

The silence may also turn us to other scales and/or manufacturers.....

Also, the less expensive but good 1:24 curb-side models may become the normal for many of us and we just may stick with them in the future. I have several of those types of models and I'm thoroughly satisfied with how they display and my wallet likes them also.

thanks for the sensible and thought out responses thus far

So im gathering I am NOT alone and most feel the way I do. We're NOT ready just yet to stop collecting and we all feel there are many more cars to be made, still get some joy out of hearing about new releases and are still willing to collect! Smile Marlowe I have also heard last summer at the All Ford Nationals in Carlisle that many of the vendors couldn't get repro items. They said that there just wasn't availability anymore of repro items AKA MADE IN CHINA items for the most part. So this factory/production "problem" has trickled not only to other makes of die-cast, but to 1:1 car parts and many other items. Perhaps AMERICA will finally start making things again HERE!

DM is pretty tight lipped about their state of affairs, but I can't help wondering why there is no..

new imventory. Only two Corvette listed on the website and they are not very desirable ones at that. Just received the 36 Packard Phaeton (BEAUTIFUL!) but cars keep disappearing and none are being restocked. What is the story with China? Or is this DM's swan song?

PICS: There are some really nice budget 1/24 that can make excellent models for any collection...

.....Here is the Classic Metal Works 1961 Impala in Seafoam Green. I did lots detailing on this car but once fully detailed, inside and out, the car is a winner for less than half of a DM. Not exactly precision like DM, but for so less money, a real winner and a good way to collect 1/24 when you don't have so much money.

BTW, the model is 1/25 but displays well with 1/24.

Robert I called JUST today to ......

Square away a bill (all paid up now YAY) and to ask what's going on with their inventory. I mentioned that MANY cars are not listed anymore and as you said are not being restocked???? I asked if they were getting out of die-cast business but was told NO and that there is a "problem" with a factory producing them. Perhaps they are simply relocating to a new place and have to set up?? Lets hope so!
