This is the image I conjure up as to who owned this 1948 Ford Super Deluxe Sportsman convertible.
Built on a whim of Henry Ford ll, it was the first wood bodied convertible ever produced from 1946 to 1948 beating Chrysler's Town & Country by a year. It was a rare sportsman who owned this beauty as only 29 were ever built in 1948. Designed by Bob Gregorie utilizing war surplus tiger maple and mahogany from Ford's Iron Mountain Plant where the wood was used to build gliders. With a sumptuous leather interior and all the options thrown in for good measure, it was the first Ford product to break the $2000 MSRP since the hand-built Model K 6 cylinder Touring Car of 1908, hence the "Super Deluxe" moniker.
