In 1961, two years before the debut of the C-2 "Stingray", GM's Styling and Design head Bill Mitchell and Larry Shinoda were already working on a future C-3 design to be designated the XP-755. Bill Mitchell had a mounted Mako Shark on his wall abd told his team to duplicate that color scheme EXACTLY. After a number of failures, the team snuck into his office, grabbed the mounted shark and repainted it to match the car. Mitchell wound up approving the paint job. There were numerous engine combos put in the Mako Shark and FM has modeled the car with a 1969 ZL-1 427 V8 which is still in the car today. Its television debut was in a 1961 episode of "Route 66". If you remember the two protagonists drove a C-1 and all the cars in the series were provided by GM.
