Approximate value of Nascar collectible
Hi all,
I'm new to the diecast car hobby. I'm in the process of building my collection of diecast cars. I am mostly interested in the muscle cars.
As I was going through my things at home packing things for a move (I'm getting married in July) I came across a diecast race car still in the box. I originally bought the car for my fiance's sister who lives in NC. For a time she was into car racing and I thought the car would be a nice gift. As it turns out while I was searching for the gift she lost interest in racing and now I have this car. I bought the car on Ebay for @ $40. I didn't know the actual value of the car at the time but the price was right at what I was looking to spend on the gift.
It's an Action Collectibles NASCAR 1:24 Dale Earnhardt Jr diecast car. It's the #8 Budweiser Monte Carlo 2002 Talladega winner I think the race day was October 6 of 2002. It's still in the styrofoam and wrapped in some kind of protective cloth. As far as I know it's in mint condition and never been taken out of the styrofoam.
I'm not sure if i want to keep it, sell it or trade it for a muscle car. I'd like to ask anyone in the know the approximate value of the vehicle. Please excuse my ignorance if I've failed to provide any other vital information.
Thanks,
Mike W.
What it's worth
Mike,
I have 2 suggestions.
1) Try to find the exact same car on ebay in the coming weeks. If you want to know the value of the car because you might sell it...this would be a decent judge of what you might get for it by tracking the exact same item and watching what it sells for.
2) Go to http://www.wiw2u.com and for a few dollars they will give you a comprehensive value based on intangibles that include not only online auctions, MSRP, regional over-the-counter demand, error versions, but a few other intangibles as well. If your item turns out to be very valuable you may use this information to assist you in the selling of your product as a value reference and/or in rare cases you could use it to make sure it is properly insured.
In either case good luck with your item!
Its probably worth the $40 you paid for it.
Nascar diecast value has plummetted the past two or three years. About the only ones holding any kind of value are the older Earnhardt stuff and even those aren't worth what they were three years ago.
The market is saturated. Thank QVC for that.
NASCAR collectibles have taken the same route as Beanie Babies. Too many editions, too many LEs and they're too damned easy to produce when a livery and/or color change is all that's necessary to produce every raceday variant a particular driver drove in any given year.
Thanks for the input
Since I'm not a NASCAR fan, I'll probably hang on to it until I know someone who is into racing and then give it as a gift. Or see if I can use it as part of a trade for something I really want. Thanks again.
Mike
