agree...to me "buy it now" is no longer an auction...

beside , you shoot yourself in the foot by using "buy it now" because sometimes the price will go higher if more than one buyer really wants it, by just letting the auction go its course...at worse put a reaserve if you are really worried...

I like auctions better

Here's my 2 cents worth, bid to win. Buy it now can be like a reserve, in other words the lowest price you will take for a car. I take it we can still use the reserve option on the auctions. An auction gives you a fair shot at winning it by not missing a buy it now item if you weren't on line when it first appeared. The seller also has a shot at getting a higher price too. Maybe it should go to a vote and whatever the outcome, give it a couple months, then ask for feedback and document if anything really changed by going to an auction only format. Personally I'm fed up with Ebay, I found this site and bought one car I really wanted so far. I like the 5 minute rule at the end and I feel I can bid with TOTAL confidence here. Whatever the outcome, it WON'T stop me from bidding and buying cars.

Make it a true auction and use the reserve or set your minimum bid if you feel the need.....

I dont mean on ebay and I dont mean using....

buy it now as a reserve. So many of our auctions are buy it now where the opening price is the buy me now. Its this type of auction item I am asking about.

I know you talking about here and not Ebay

I like to see less buy it now and more auctions. I also like the 5 minute rule at the end. Whatever you guys decide, won't stop me from buying here, I feel confident in the way this site is run. Thanks.

It is not an auction, it then becomes a "sale". That said, there are times when I see an item I really want and it has a "Buy it now" price, I can buy it and know that I won't lose it at the eleventh hour (after I've gone to bed) and Brad Boulanger comes along and outbids me AGAIN.

Depends on how bad I want the item and how much I am willing to pay

I don't sell many cars.

After I got riffed a couple of years ago I had to sell some cars. I made a very painful decision and chose to sell my Talbot-Lagos, I felt that they would provide the most bang for the buck in a depressed market. I set an opening price I could live with, and a Buy it Now price that I felt was fair and that I would be happy with.

Someone put in the minimum bid on the maroon car, hoping to steal it I suspect; but the silver/blue car sold the first day for the buy it now price. In the end the price on the maroon car far exceeded my expectations, I almost felt guilty.

And yes, I wish I had them back - they were by far the most beautiful cars in my collection.
