The winner? Sherman tanks. Only 997 of these beautiful Chrysler Town & Country "Barrel Back" were produced for 1942 with most built in 1941. By 1942 even the last runs lost a lot of their chrome brightwork due to war time restrictions. Most of these T&Cs were in 9 passenger configuration with fold down jump seats installed. As a family friendly and versatile feature, a metal and wood roof rack crowns the car. Chrysler wouldn't have a V8 until 1951 when the Firepower Hemi V8 was introduced. In 1942, only the 108 HP Spitfire 241.5 cid Six was available. At $1685 for the 9 passenger, it wasn't horribly expensive, but it was definitely high maintenance with Chrysler wanting the ash and Honduran mahogany sanded and varnished every 6 months. This is probably why only 24 are known to exist today.

Rich, disappointed. I was hoping to see something about the Franklin mint Sherman. Nice info on the Chrysler wagon though it's no Chrysler multi bank Sherman either.

@grockwood Franklin did some nice armor and aircraft. I could never find a use for them in either selection or scale. The tanks were 1/24 and the aircraft were 1/48. All my stuff was 1/32 to 1/35 or 55mm so I built in plastic for my dioramas.
