Robbie and Bobbson, of the Bobwhite Agency, are on the job in the sub-level structure of Big Eats......it`s here at the scene of the crime, that Betty Bibbb`s swell red caddy was towed when she ankled away from a tense grab and snatch just yesterday afternoon
Betty left enough clues to trigger almost incessant bell-ringing from Timmy White, the lead crime goat......Timmy refused any further comment when pressed by the Channel 7 News Team, but he did accept a small cheese biscuit
"We fully expect to have Betty, and anyone she may be traveling with,to be in custody sooner, rather than later"...this from the Agency`s founder and CEO,Robinson White
Can't wait to hear Jack Dodds' version.
DETECTIVE STEVE JAY FILES: CASE # 2022-03-16-68772 - ROBBERY
LAPD Detective Steve Jay waited impatiently for his rookie partner Norman Newby to arrive on the scene of a high value smash and grab at Van Glas Jewelry Emporium on the mall upper floor. Newby was a good worker but somewhat of an anomaly; looking like a baby-faced teenager with his close cropped blonde hair and unusual trousers. "This mess is already pissing me off" muttered the seasoned detective under his breath, as his eyes scanned the cast of players needlessly compromising his crime scene. "C'mon you guys, for Christ sake get this under control" Jay barked at the two uniformed officers nearby. The men exchanged furtive glances, confused by how irritated the normally affable and professional detective was behaving. Jay was miserable all right, in fact he was damned sore. The timing of this call couldn't have been worse. Jay had just left the office of proctologist Dr. Hans McCracken, who had performed the "routine" dreaded examination; one which Jay would definitely never endure the agony of again, of that he was certain. Jay painfully paced the crime scene, assessing what he had for evidence while unconsciously handling the prescription pad in his coat pocket, which he had taken from Dr. McCracken's office desk. Jay had inadvertently clenched the pad in his hand as he winced in discomfort while "assuming the position". He was a bit ashamed of himself for leaving with it but dismissed the guilt as he felt it was simply out of resentment toward the large handed doctor. Every painful step he now took was very deliberately and gingerly placed; making his stance appear like he was leaning back as he walked. In spite of this Detective Steve Jay cut an impressive figure; stern faced and dressed immaculately as always in his trench coat, trademark saddle shoes and fedora. The son of European immigrant parents who had changed their surname for ease of use in America, Steve Jay had done well for himself and was respected in his profession.
Jay was pleased though because he already had a leg up on this case. He had initially perused the store security tape and was fairly sure the perp was none other than the gorgeous but sociopathic Betty Bibb, aka Notorious Betty Paige, one of the best in the business. Her sunglasses would make a positive ID difficult however, so he was appreciative when he learned that burly biker Harley Waite, astride his motorcycle in the lower lot, had witnessed the suspect sprint to the vintage red Cadillac convertible now before Jay. Waite related to Jay that he had watched with interest as the woman shrieked in frustration when the car failed to start. Waite approached her to offer assistance but stopped short when he saw approaching security officers yelling at her from a short distance away. He then saw the panicked woman run to a nearby copper colored '65 Riviera being loaded by an elderly shopper, demand the keys from him and roar off, making good her escape. The quick thinking Waite had wisely jotted down the Riviera plate number BCC2021 and gave it to Jay, who put out a BOLF for the stolen car and likely suspect.
Jay shook his head in disbelief when he saw a buxom redhead march up and jump into the red Cadillac, looking very officious. Tow truck driver Clark Cable, who had the Caddy already hooked up for police seizure, tried to have her get out but she refused, claiming that she had been out searching for the car as she was repossessing it due to payment default. She flipped Detective Jay an elaborate embossed business card, identifying her as Lotta Mounds, business manager of Slippin' Jimmy Car Sales Ltd., Financial Services Division. Jay chuckled as he recognized this purported businesswoman as a former pole and lap dancer down at a high end strip club simply called The Lounge; which was coincidentally Slippin' Jimmy's long time bar of choice. Jay eventually convinced Lotta that the Caddy would be returned, which seemed to placate her somewhat and she reluctantly agreed to depart. Jay then noted that his partner Newby had spotted identical twins Robbie and Bobson White; bothersome sons of local Bobwhite Private Investigation firm owner and self-promoting blowhard Robinson White. Realizing that the brothers were once again trying to generate business with the crime victim and obstructing their investigation, Newby sent them on their way with a harsh warning. Jay then approached Clark Cable and gave him the thumbs up to tow the Caddy back to the station for Identification Branch processing. Jay wondered how much longer the eccentric, animal loving wrecker driver would keep the police towing contract. In recent months he had taken to having his adopted pet goat he had named Timmy White ride along in the cab of his truck to his calls. Once the Channel 7 News crew saw Clark's goat, tinkling bell hung around his neck at several crime and accident scenes they attended, it quickly became somewhat of a media darling. It had even been featured in a short Channel 7 clip. "Good little filler to have on hand for a slow news day I suppose", mused Jay. True to form this day, the goat was expressing a great deal of interest in a crate officers had found in the trunk of the Caddy, which puzzled Jay and Newby until they pried it open and found several gold figurines packed in straw. Jay and Newby recognized the very valuable pieces from police briefings as those stolen from a similar robbery just two days earlier. It looked like the charges against Betty Bibb were beginning to pile up. Wincing through his pain Steve Jay walked awkwardly back to his Dodge sedan, thinking he had to get home and soak his tush in a hot bath. Tomorrow would be a better day.
