This 1938 Phantom Corsair was envisioned and built H.J. Heinz scion Rust Heinz and Maurice Schwartz of Bohman & Schwartz coachbuilders in Pasedena, California. It was actually a concept car that was to lead to actual production. It is a mid-front engine, front wheel drive Cord 810 chassis with a 190 HP Lycoming V8. Heinz tragically died in a car accident in 1939 and with him went the production start-up money. The car got immediate publicity starring in the 1938 movie "The Young In Heart" that centered on a sales center featuring the Phantom When I speak of  Corsair which was called "The Flying Wombat". When I speak of "capturing" this car, I'm referring to photographing this all black model and the resultant problem of reflectivity on the compound curved. Black is actually a total lack of color and like a Black Hole, sucks up colors in the reflections of its environment. I was shooting it for Automodello and it drove me crazy trying to maintain its blackness and not obscuring the details. If you look at stills from the film, Hollywood didn't have great luck with it either... and the movie is in black and white!

Seating for four all on the same seat. The picture showing a row of cars was wishful thinking as only one was ever built.
