Behold this 1928 International Harvester Speed Truck Model SL-36. It was known as the "Six Speed Special" for the extra performance it got out of its 173 cid 4 cylinder L-Head Waukesha engine by augmenting its 3 speed transmission with an Eaton 2 speed rear axle. It was a real reliable workhorse in its day being able to slog through muddy farm fields carrying the harvest or plying the highways at a staggering 35 mph (in 6th gear) getting the produce swiftly to market.
Nothing lights up a drab utilitarian hauler like period Coca-Cola livery, and this gorgeous Danbury Mint model has the aura of a travelling circus. You expect to see a pair of elephants trailing it.
one of my long time favourites. Love the offbeat headlight positioning. thanks Rich
