Very nice work, but I have to ask. Since Danbury Mint also produced the '56 DeSoto in a "reverse paint" scheme on a convertible, why did you decide to chop the top off of the hardtop?
I have both of these Danbury Mint cars (Coupe & Convertible) in the "reversed" color combination. I prefer your conversion because I like this paint scheme better, it has wire wheels and a tri-tone colored interior as opposed to full wheel covers and a dual-colored interior. Would it be possible (difficult) to exchange the hardtop with the convertible boot cover? Do the windscreens need to be swapped also? I really like your conversion. Lastly, are you the Diecast Zone member that builds/assembles many 1:25 scale model kits? Thanks in advance for any reply.

George, I hated the reverse paint on the convertible. Thought it was the ugliest combination of paint DM ever put on their cars.

Brian, to get the boot to fit the HT wasn't easy. Had to do a lot of grinding with a Dremel. The back seat side panels rise above the car body and connects with the roof line inside the car. They and part of the seat ends had to be cut down to make the boot fit. The back seat is wider than the convertible seat. The work was contained to the back of car area. Also had to grind down some on the underside of boot to get a tight fit.
As far as the model building haven't built any in many years. Just turned 83 last December. Hope this answers your ?s.

I'm with you Hollis; never cared for the reverse colors of the drop top. The coupe colors are insanely gorgeous!

Okay guys, thanks! Guess I'm in the minority on this one, as I like the convertible reverse color scheme.
The coupe was issued April of 2004 in Plum & Lavender Iridescent. The Plum set the overall tone, in my estimation, by using the Lavender as a terrific accent. But in December of that year, when the convertible was released, the Iridescent Lavender, again, in my personal opinion, was too much to view as a primary paint color, with the gorgeous Plum as a secondary step-child-like accent. I had them both and they were highly esteemed, but I would up selling them as a set. And as with all my sales - I regretted it.

I hope you aren't regretting the two cars you sold me. Just letting you know I love them and they are in one of the front rows on my model shelves.
