I was delighted when FM released their lineup of the 427 SC Cobras and a bought a few. I really liked the look of the brushed metal one liveried in Shelby's #98 in a white roundel. This Cobra had plates that was the chassis number CSX 3056. The dash plaque was the original Shelby built with serial numbers but the actual number was very high. What I found was that CSX 3056 , registration #H8 COB was built in 1990 by AC Cars Ltd of Surrey, England. In 1980, what is technically a MklV Cobra began being produced by Autokraft trading under AC Cars Ltd, who bought the rights to the AC name. By 1985, the took exclusive use of the Cobra brand. They continued building Cobras into the '90s. This particular Cobra was built between 1989 and 1990, Finished in silver, and converted to RHD at the factory. It has the real high compression 427 cid top oiler engine with the enlarged racing gas tank and was one of ten built to those specs. Now I bought the this brushed metal finished model because I thought it looked cool and really showed off the lines of the Cobra well, but the fact that it was branded with a CSX chassis number made me curious and somewhat perplexed that it's certainly not true to its namesake.
Here's the real CX3056 with the dash plate:
This FM Cobra looks superb ! Certainly, every inch a model of these racers and would be excellent on display. The 1/24 racing Cobra I have is a brushed aluminum one with the racing decals/numbers/logos. It was done by Jada some years back.
doesn't it just exude 'toughness!'
Rich, great photos. I agree FM did a fantastic job re-producing these models and I managed to get all of them for my collection.
Wonderful pictures of one of a few I have in my collection that has a number on the side.
@bob-jackman You know me, Bob. I'll buy anything as long as it has numbers on it. LOL
