In 2001 the Danbury Mint issued the DeSoto Adventurer Hardtop, I added it to my collection that year. That model is featured in the 1st set of photos.
Sometime later I learned that were two slightly different versions of the model available. My original with no side windows, giving the model the open air look.
I added the 2nd of these models to my collection in 2017 after learning about the other version with the rear windows intact. Not sure why DM issued it both ways, but I thought it was important to have one of each in my collection.

Excellent pictures!
Mine has a window only on one of the sides. I bought it really cheap without a box, so I never figured was it made that way or the window got lost...
I never knew they were made both ways. Mine has the rear windows.
I knew they were made with rear windows and without. Glad I have WITHOUT. The whole experience of a Hardtop is to have the windows down. Beautiful model! Though, I would rather it didn't have the Gold Wire Wheel Covers. My opinion, they look hideous on the model and did on the real car as well. Great pics John!

I do prefer this without the rear side windows for a genuine hardtop look. I seem to recall that someone here on the Zone modified his by replacing the gold wheels with DM '56 DeSoto wires and, to me, it made a delightful, delovely, and distinctive difference.
I actually do NOT believe the DeSoto was offered with or without the quarter windows. Whatever examples you find without them were either LOST or removed intentionally. The come out with just a tug
Phil, the DeSoto I pictured in the 1st group came from DM as shown. I opened it from them and it was without the side windows. If those windows were removed, it was done by someone at DM.
For many years, I thought it was the way they made it. It wasn't until I saw photos of one that included them that I realized there were two versions.

I like the gold wheel covers. Are they beautiful? I don't think so but because they are correct to the 1/1. When various groups visit my collection I want them to see what the cars looked like when they came off of the assembly line not what someone did to their personal taste. Like 1/1 cars...it's the owners car and their money so they can do what they want.
