When I first saw the original black '61 Continental in one of TFM's brick and mortar stores. I was rather underwhelmed. Perhaps it was the lighting, but it left me cold. By the time I found out about the Pebble Beach white LE, it was ridiculously expensive on the secondary market. Years later, I finally sprung for this emerald green repaint just because this generation Lincoln was so iconic. I can't say I care for the color. The model is old tech, but overlooking the dog leg hinges it does have some nice features including the P.E. wipers and fine metal mesh grill. What drives me crazy was the clunky casting for the hood ornament when it could have also been done as a photoetched piece. I always hoped Danbury Mint would also make this model so I could retire this one, but it never happened.
Gr8 pics. Nice model. I actually like the color. Fortunately, yours doesn't seem to have the pronounced gap in the front edge of the hood which I've seen on many others. FM's '56 Cascade Green Corvette had this same issue. Perhaps it's due to the front-hinged hood.
@al_dorado That emerald green is a really sharp color. For me, it looks fine on the Mark ll, but doesn't on the '61. It's my own bias, I guess.
Rich your comments on the model being old tech are right on but I think the model displays quite nicely. To back up that statement, I have the model in white, black, green and dark red metallic.
I missed out on the black Continental, so when I found out that Vicky's Gifts was doing this car I ordered two. I have no problem with the dog leg hinges, if fact they are correct for this car. This is a pick of my '65 continental with dogleg hinges. The doors open outside the fenders, as did many '50's and '60's cars.
