The 1961 Lincoln Continental was the first flagship luxury car from the Big Three to shed the jet age styling cues of tail fins and snazzy side spears offering an albeit slab-sided more European understated design. When I first saw FM's model at their big box store, I wasn't impressed. First of all, the models never showed well under the harsh fluorescent lighting and it was such an annoying mix of old tech and newer tech. The massive dog leg hinges were very intrusive and removing the top left you with two huge locator holes, It offered photoetched parts like the grill and wipers but the hood ornament was just an overly thick casting. By the third(?) re-issue in turquoise, I realized I really need a model of this significant automobile so I bought it and grew to love it, warts and all.
Great pictures Rich. I wasn't as selective back in the day and ended up with all four colors in this model....Burgandy, Turquoise, Black and White (Pebble Beach). They may not be the best but they are still most prized in my collection.
Great photo's Rich. I got this one, but unfortunately, I got one of the ones with the messed up windshield. One day I will look at fixing it.
