Everyone must be selling off their collections.....

I've not seen 56 cars on the auction in a very long time.

It's because summer is over and people are getting back to what's...

important!

The number 56 is deceiving. Several of the items are for "paperwork" only and many others are cars that show up all the time on the auction. And then there are a couple of cars that haven't been on the auction for a while, but (IMO) are over-priced.

For what my opinion is worth, and likely probably very little...I don't think "paperwork" only should be on the auction.

I also strongly believe that the couple of guys who continually sell cars that are altered and modified from their original release form, should not be permitted either. Yes they disclose what they've done to the car, but (again my opinion) those cars are no longer collectibles!

I know what you mean....

I've either got to stop collecting or get some more display cases. I've bought about a dozen die cast and several kits in just the last week!

George, you're correct about the '56' being misleading. Otherwise, you've lost your focus...

... on what's important.
This website is called - 'diecast.org'. If anyone is willing to pay the commission to sell 'anything' that is diecast-related... they should be able to do that.
And I'm all for whatever keeps this website a viable ($$$$) enterprise to help keep the 1:24 hobby afloat.
It's not been that long ago that a lot of folks were singing a 'gloom and doom' song after both the Mints quit on us. And yet... we're still here.
The 1:24 hobby will survive if it evolves when necessary.
We all hope that new 1;24s can emerge; but, until then all we can do is try to sustain and evolve as best as we can.

In the meantime, I've bought a couple 'modified' 1:24s and I'm happy with them. And I need to double-check my 'paperwork' stash and see what I'm missing. We all know that our little gems are worth a little more when we can sell with the paperwork.
To paraphrase .... collecting is in the eye of the collector.

Hey Dan .... I am right there with you brother

Do I keep all of my different flavors

OR

Do I start selling them off

In 3 years I retire

In 3 years I relocate to TENN

In 3 years I'll be 66 & some change

AND nobody wants any of my stuff

EXCEPT my PM and collectable large size currency

So if nobody want this after I am gone ... heck ... I might as well start ... Clearing the clutter

I'm at a cross roads

I'll just continue to work 60 hours a week and cross bridge when I "HAVE" to

OH ...

COngrats on "80" ... you little devil you !!

I can only dream of making it until then ... but who knows

Modifying die cast models...

photo no longer available

I had a couple of DM '53 wreckers in vaious states of disrepair, so I did this conversion to a dump truck that I've posted before. Fun project!

Personally, I'm not into collecting as an investment. Although all of my die casts were purchased as "used", many were MIB with all the paperwork. If I want missing paperwork or boxes, it's good to have a source. I've made some minor modifications to a few other models, such as reversing white walls to black walls, different wheel covers, etc.

My favorite modified die cast is this '69 "Sleeper" Charger I found on eBay. The stripe was removed, wheels swapped for dog dish hubcaps, and a bench seat replaces the original buckets and console. I'm thinking of replacing the red line tires with white walls to complete the effect. It looks prety cool displayed next to the original version.

Hey Billy, no argument with your rationale in your post. I agree to each their own. But you also have to remember that along with "to each their own", it also gives each of us the right to have "our opinion". I was sharing mine.

If anyone or everyone disagrees with MY opinion, I've no problem with that, as THEY are entitled to "THEIR" opinion.

Dennis, this Orlando area traffic sucks. I’m looking at the North Georgia or Tennessee mountains.

George, you are right. A respectful, free exchange of opinions IS a beautiful thing.

An interesting response George.

A little bit too, mother knows best in nature, but interesting none the less.
So. no paper work - right. Now that leaves those items of ephemera to just ebay - they get the sales commission & D4C misses out - how does that make any sense when the home town auction receives nada? Do tell, please.

No customized 1/24 scale die cast either, eh?
In the scale we follow here on this page there are so few new model's being produced these days that I would have thought many of us would be as thrilled to bits to see what's out there and with the opportunity to bid and hopefully own some of these creations.

If the work done to create variations is of a high standard then, sure, I want to see what else I can buy to add interest to my collection. Would you rather these conversions were listed on ebay also? They would just love all that commission. Is that really what you want to have happen?
If custom models are listed for an amount you believe is too optimistic then surely the market will decide if you are correct or not.
Its important to support the Diecast Club especially if we are able to and we also benefit by doing this. The auction is one tangible way that our support benefits the D4C and encourages model builders to offer more of their work and creativity.
In my view the items you wish to discourage from being listed are items that people want and the Club can benefit from if they are sold and they comply with the auction organizers rules then, what the hell.
